Citizenship Resumption

Law is not a profession at all, but rather a business sevice station and repair shop.

At Anwar Immigration Law Office, we assist former Canadian citizens who wish to restore their citizenship status. If you previously held Canadian citizenship, you may be eligible to apply for resumption under specific legal conditions. It’s important to note that resumed citizenship is not retroactive—it becomes effective only after you take the oath of citizenship.

Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify for resumption of citizenship under subsection 11(1) of the Citizenship Act, applicants must:

  • Submit a formal application for resumption
  • Not be subject to citizenship revocation or related legal prohibitions
  • Not be under a removal order from Canada
  • Hold valid permanent resident status with no outstanding conditions
  • Meet residency requirements (at least 365 days in Canada within the last 2 years)
  • Comply with applicable income tax filing obligations

Application Process:
Applicants must provide key documents such as proof of birth, identity documents, evidence of previous citizenship and its loss, immigration records, and proof of residency. After submission, the application undergoes background checks, eligibility review, and possibly an interview if concerns arise. Once approved, applicants attend a citizenship ceremony where their status is officially restored.
